Equation metric: paddock size ÷ ((m2/cow/day x cows) ÷ 10 000)

kgDM/Cow/Day or lbDM/Cow/Day

Work out approximately how many kg of dry matter per cow per day you will get from a paddock based on paddock size (ha or ac), cover (kgDM/ha or lbDM/ac), residual (kgDM/ha  or lbDM/ac), number of cows and number of days.

Crop Allocation

Work out the approximate area of crop to allocate (in meters or yards squared) and  the approximate number of days you can leave the cows in a paddock based on yield (tDM/ha or tDM/ac), the number of cows, the kgDM/cow/day or lbDM/cow/day required and paddock area (ha or ac).

Crop Allocation Equation Metric: (((kgDM/cow/day ÷ yield) x 10) x cows
Number of Days Equation Metric: paddock area ÷ (crop allocation ÷ 10 000)

Pre-Grazing Cover

Work out the target pre-grazing cover or the paddock trigger level (kgDM/ha or lbDM/ac) based on stocking rate (cows/ha or cows/ac), intake (kgDM/cow/day or bDM/cow/day), round length or rotation (days) and the optimum residual (kgDM/ha or bDM/ha).

Equation: (stocking rate x intake x round length or rotation) + optimum residual
